Electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid are different
A battery electric vehicle (BEV) uses energy stored in its battery for propulsion. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) combines an externally rechargeable electric system with an internal combustion engine.
A conventional hybrid (HEV) does not connect to a station to charge its battery. Having “hybrid” in the model name is not enough to establish charging compatibility.
- BEV: plan energy and charging stops for the whole journey.
- PHEV: check electric range and charging capabilities for your version.
- HEV: do not confuse it with a plug-in model.
Find the make, model, year and version
Select your vehicle version in the app catalog. Cars with the same model name can have different batteries, drivetrains or charging ports. The original market also matters when comparing vehicles in Puerto Rico and Colombia.
Do not substitute another version just to fill a missing field. Compare available fields with your vehicle documentation; contact support if your version is missing or you find an error. The catalog helps with selection but does not certify every imported vehicle.
Connectors, kW and kWh describe different things
The connector identifies the compatible physical connection; kW describes power and kWh describes energy. A higher-power station does not guarantee faster charging when the vehicle accepts less power.
Charging time also depends on battery level and the charging system. Check whether your model supports AC, DC fast charging or both, and follow manufacturer instructions for adapters.
Published range is a reference
Read a range figure alongside its test cycle. It is not a promise for every road. Speed, temperature and vehicle use can affect actual range.
Save your vehicle in Voltiway to prepare trips with its available characteristics. Review starting charge, preserve a reserve and confirm essential stations. Planning supports decisions, but its calculations remain estimates.
Before you go
Can every hybrid be plugged in?
No. PHEVs can be charged from an external power source; conventional HEVs cannot. Check your exact vehicle version.
Can I compare car purchase prices here?
This guide focuses on charging, compatibility and trip preparation. Voltiway does not present dealership offers or vehicle sale prices here.
